Villa Mimi radiates tranquillity and a family atmosphere. It thrives on attention to detail.
Villa Mimi is a journey through time from the exclusive modernity on the upper floor to the old days of the k & k monarchy, which can be felt on the ground floor. The large garden, the small number of rooms, the location of the house set far back from the street and the botanical garden of the University of Sopron as a direct neighbour create the special tranquillity and unique atmosphere in this accommodation.
There is no reception and to enter Villa Mimi you will be given the access code to the property and house in advance, so you can arrive whenever it suits you from 2 pm. If there is no staff in the house, we are still always available for you. On the ground floor, the lobby invites you to chat or simply read.
The History of Villa Mimi
Villa Mimi was built in 1881 and served as the family residence for a long time. In the 1990s, Dr Martin Lichtl, who was born in Swabia (Germany) and whose parents grew up in Sopron and had to leave Hungary after the Second World War, took over the house from his aunt Elli, the older sister of Mimi. As a child, Martin used to spend his summer holidays at his aunt’s house in Sopron.
The architect Csaba Rosta from Györ converted the family home from 1881 into an accommodation with six rooms by blending the historic rooms on the ground floor with new rooms on the upper floor, to which he brought stylish modernity. His well designed modern staircase is both the symbol and the link in this architectural journey through time. The house was opened to the public in 1995. Since then, the owner and his team supported by Csaba Rosta have continued to develop Villa Mimi and its garden.
